It’s come to my attention that I collect hobbies. I didn’t even realize I was doing it until my friends started to tease me about. What can I say? I’ll try (almost) anything once. I guess it’s the Pisces in me.
I started picking up hobbies when I was very young. It started with a love of reading. That morphed into a love of writing. But my imagination couldn’t be contained to the written page alone.
I was that kid who went to Michael’s on the reg and bought latch hook sets. I would then diligently make weird carpet-like things that no one knows what the hell to do with when they’re finished.
Shortly after I was done wasting my parent’s money in college, I started wasting my own money crocheting things I would never use. Yeah, I kinda sucked at crocheting. So I switched to knitting, which I liked much better. Most recently, I’ve started sewing which I find challenging and fun. Challenging because I’m too lazy to learn how to read a pattern, but fun because I’ve managed to still make wearable and usable items despite my complete and utter lack of patience for watching a YouTube video that’s longer than 10 minutes. It’s become my latest fun and also amazingly expensive, money pit of a hobby.
I’ve only recently started thinking of exercising as a hobby. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking, but I’m trying to get it out of the “have to do” column and into the “something that I enjoy doing” column. I do enjoy exercising…to a point. We’ll see if that one sticks or if it ends up at the bottom of the dumpster like all those jewelry making supplies from a few years back. Yeah, I sucked at jewelry making too.
There have been other mixed into my shady, hobby past, and I’m sure there are more in future. I invite you to follow along in my hobby adventures if the spirit moves you.
